Economic Situation
The financial state of a country and employment levels for its population will determine the foods available to people. In some countries, some people can only afford to eat once per day, or even less, whereas in Australia we can generally afford to eat three good meals each day. The type of job you have and the amount of money that you earn will affect what you tend to eat. If you earn a lot of money you have the option to select fi llet steak over chuck steak, brie cheese over cheddar cheese and lobster over leatherjacket.
Some countries are unable to grow certain food crops, so must buy or import these foods from other countries. They are usually expensive to purchase.
If a country is at war, government money may be directed towards military uses rather than the provision of food. This then limits the food available to people.
